Adventures Five
When the Wumps got their land legs back, they started to explore and were able to get close to the food hampers people had lying on the ground around them. I must admit it was not the thing to do, but the Wumps could not resist taking a nibble whenever they could, out of whatever they could reach.
I feel sure no one would begrudge a Wump a tiny piece of smoked salmon or rather nice cheese, unfortunately they could not climb up the side of the glasses to have a sip of champagne, still you can't have everything. They thought the rowing and other boating antics rather exciting even though they had floated down the river without the help of a fancy boat.
Soon the evening was getting dark and the Wumps had to get back to their log for a good nights rest after all that food and excitement. They had many miles of travel days left before they would reach the mouth of the Thames.
The log was beginning to feel like a safe home for the Wumps as it floated steadily through Marlow, Maidenhead and Eton (where they were very disappointed not to have seen at least one straw boater). They continued past Kingston, past Ham House and Richmond. The river at this point was of course getting a lot wider than they had been used to. They were soon on the Oxford and Cambridge boat race course, under Barnes bridge, Fulham and so to Westminster. It was here that they hoped to meet the Prime Minister, but this was a bit of wishful thinking. Again they had a great piece of luck, the wash from one of the pleasure boats swept their log onto the shore and so enabling them to start visiting the London sights such as the Palace of Westminster, London Eye, Tower Bridge, Tower of London and the London Dungeon.
